I was able to work well with it outdoors. It’s fully laminated, of course, viewing angles are stable, and it’s very bright. Texts and icons look very sharp, even when you hold your nose directly in front of it. It’s an 11-inch IPS display with a nice high resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels. Other aspects of the screen are also very good. You can lower the frequency in the settings to save the battery.
This makes animations look especially smooth – but I have to admit that it’s really hard to see a difference to 120Hz. The flagships from Samsung and Apple, as well as the Pad 5 predecessor, manage 120Hz only. The Xiaomi Pad 6 is the first tablet to be released with a 144Hz display. We’ll start this review with the screen, because there is an important new feature here. Xiaomi has not launched it for the US market yet but I’m assuming they will because the predecessor has been released in the United States too. This project includes special build scripts that clone Microsoft’s vscode repo, run the build commands, and upload the resulting binaries for you to GitHub releases. The VSCodium project exists so that you don’t have to download+build from source. Therefore, you generate a “clean” build, without the Microsoft customizations, which is by default licensed under the MIT license When you clone and build from the vscode repo, none of these endpoints are configured in the default product.json. We clone the vscode repository, we lay down a customized product.json that has Microsoft specific functionality (telemetry, gallery, logo, etc.), and then produce a build that we release under our license. When we build Visual Studio Code, we do exactly this. According to this comment from a Visual Studio Code maintainer: Microsoft’s vscode source code is open source (MIT-licensed), but the product available for download (Visual Studio Code) is licensed under this not-FLOSS license and contains telemetry/tracking.
